The Resource Room offers assistance for students that take content area classes in a general education setting. During at least one block (of our 8 block schedule) they come to the Resource Room to work on the goals and objectives stated in their Individual Educational Plan (IEP).

The work I do with students in Resource is IEP driven. Each student's IEP is different. However, I have certain guidelines and goals for each grade level.

9th & 10th grade Resource: In addition to their IEP goals, I also work with these students in the areas of:
Organizational skills - use of planner, completing assignments on time, having appropriate materials for each class, use of folders and notebooks, etc.
Study Skills Strategy - how to read and use a textbook, how to skim and scan a text, note taking, test taking strategies, use of graphic organizers, writing strategies, use of teacher made and student made study guides, etc.
Structured Expectations - I guide step by step with the content area classes that we will work on. I communicate on a regular basis with the content area teachers and know when tests or major assignments are due. I set up a schedule of preparing for these tests and assignments.
When the opportunity arises, we also work on:
Self Advocacy and Self Determination Skills
Transition skills
Hudson Learner Performance Goals and Employability Skills - in this area I work with the students in making a connection between what is happening in their content area classes and how this ties in to (supports) the HLPG and Employability Skills.

My goal for my 9th and 10th grade students is to help them develop the learning strategies that will enhance their abilities to independently achieve success in their content area classes.

11th and 12th grade Resource: The work I do with these students evolves to emphasize:
Career Awareness
Self Advocacy Skills
Self Determination Skills
Transition Skills
Hudson Learner Performance Goals and Employability Skills
Preparation for Senior Celebration
I believe that by 11th and 12th grade students need to become more independent in the areas of organizational and study skills and take responsibility for their academics. Obviously, if a student requires more help in this area I will continue to help him/her develop the necessary strategies to assume responsibility for his/her learning.

My goal for my 11th and 12th grade students is to help them prepare for a successful transition from high school to either post secondary training or entrance into the job market.

Below is a picture of my two grandchildren, Lea and Felix. They live in Germany. We were able to see them during the summer of 2007.
